Commonwealth Games - Celebrating Success and Sustainability
The Commonwealth Games are proving to be an all-round success. Slight weather issues aside – this is Scotland after all, the games have been receiving great reviews. The supporters have been getting behind all the nations competing and are clearly enjoying the great sporting spectacle.
The Home Nations are storming ahead in the medals table and making us all very proud to see both young and experienced athletes performing at their best.
Another interesting aspect of Glasgow 2014 is the commitment to deliver a sustainable event. Pledges have been made to improve recycling, resource and energy efficiency.
Other creative ways of ensuring sustainability have been implemented throughout the games. For example the podiums on which athletes receive their medals have been crafted from fallen trees around the host city. Using reclaimed and sustainable materials is a huge boost for the environment.

In addition to this Glasgow 2014 have made away with the traditional flowers presented to medal winners and instead have used reclaimed wood to create commemorative gifts in the form of the traditional quaichs (usually made of silver) for athletes to take home.
Harley & Lola are strongly committed to sourcing reclaimed and sustainable wood in our furniture collections in order to help protect the environment. To see such a large event help promote this approach on a global scale is going to be a huge boost for the environment and a sustainable future.
To show our support and celebrate the home nations success we are offering 10% off ALL of our sustainable and reclaimed wood ranges! Check them out here.
