Relaxed Nordic Design Tips

Share:

Here at Harley & Lola there's nothing we love more than a bit of Scandinavian styling – well, one of our founders is Danish after all. Full-on Scadinavian styling with its wooden floors and stark white interiors is not necessarily for everyone; however, it is very easy to incorporate some elements in to any home. So, we have collated a few design tips to bring a bit of relaxed Nordic charm to your home.

Light Wood, Lighter Walls

One of the major components of Nordic living is the minimalist approach - and that applies to colour as much as it does style! You can work towards a Scandinavian aesthetic without diving in feet first. Try utilising light oak furniture for that Nordic feel, in combination with slim lines. Instead of chunky furniture, aim for lean but functional - the perfect middle ground.

Our Wycombe range embodies this design spirit perfectly, light oak furniture paired with stunning simple design as seen for example on this beautiful dining table.

When it comes to your walls, steer away from anything overcomplicated. A soft grey, muted pink or anything else simply elegant will contrast beautifully with pale furniture for that Nordic feel.

Get Hygge

Otherwise known as the cosy trend! The very epicentre of Scandi style is easy to achieve. Use massive cosy knit throws in neutral tones, pops of colour with simple cushions and lots and lots of plain colours that cosy feel. Minimalism doesn't have to feel clinical - swap out the stark whites for greys and pale colours and you're well on your way to a comfortable and stylish home without too much time or effort.

Incorporate Accessories

Whether it's a feature lampshade like our beautiful Carmina lampshade or a beautiful mirror, the clean and simple accessories are a great way of incorporating this trend into your home.

This is a quick way to inject a bit of Nordic style into your home, it's also much cheaper and easier than replacing all your furniture in one go! Start from the ground up with the basics - a cushion here and a rug there - and you'll soon be on your way to that relaxed look you've always dreamed of.

Bright and Breezy

Nordic design helps provide the feeling of space and openness. Clutter can make a room feel smaller than it is, so stick with a few key statement pieces and keep accessories simple and stylish.

Most importantly – don’t forget the candles! A mainstay in Scandinavian living; candles add a cosy, warm feel on those dark autumn and winter evenings.
